Stay Safe from Coronavirus in Five Ways

The coronavirus is a pandemic which has alarmed the global population. The panic has risen in major crowded metropolises like Karachi as educational institutes have shut down. The terror that accompanies this virus is the absence of any vaccine to prevent the infection of coronavirus (COVID-19). Thus, the virus that causes COVID-19 seems to be spreading easily and sustainably in the community (“community spread”).

Yet, all healers have believed since time immemorial that prevention is better than cure-- this rings true, especially in case of the COVID-19, where the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.

Fatimid Foundation, as always, rises to the challenge to save lives and prevent disease and exhorts the people of Karachi to use a combination of common sense and basic hygiene practices along with seeking assistance in case of illness to combat this panic and stay safe.

Here are five things you should be doing to stay safe from COVID-19:

Thorough and regular hand washing:
Washing or sanitising hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds is considered the most important preventive measure against the coronavirus and must be done often during the day. This must be done especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Carrying a sanitizer is highly recommended when out of the house.

Maintaining a social distance:

As the virus spreads from person to person, one must maintain a social distance of 3 feet when you are in a social place and be watchful. Don’t get closer to people, especially those who are showing respiratory symptoms like repeatedly coughing and sneezing. If you cough yourself, do so in a tissue or into your sleeve. Also, avoid shaking hands or hugging when greeting. A warm smile is greeting enough.

Avoid touching your face:

The virus enters the body through the nose, mouth or eyes and if your fingers have been in touch with a contaminated surface, one must not touch their face. Washing hands regularly and changing clothes immediately after reaching home and taking a shower twice a day are also additional safety measures.

Seeking medical attention:

Call a healthcare professional if you develop a fever and symptoms of respiratory illness, such as cough or difficulty breathing. People who have travelled to an area with an ongoing spread or think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

Staying home if sick:

People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to isolate at home during their illness. They should restrict activities outside their home, except for getting medical care. They must not make others vulnerable and not go to work, school, or public areas, especially avoiding the use of public transportation. Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.

Together, by staying vigilant and maintaining hygiene, we can help curb the spread of COVID-19 and help in ending this pandemic. Fatimid Foundation continues to be the symbol of hope for the ailing in Pakistan being the largest voluntary health care and blood transfusion service in the country having its presence in cities like Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, Quetta, Hyderabad, Rashidabad (Tando Allahyar), Khairpur and Larkana.
